Overview
REIS is a commercial real estate data tool. REIS needed to modernize their established system with a new, IA, UX and Design System.
Building the Blocks
We started our process by building a design system called “Block.” Block focused on feature rich baseline components. Our development team used this system to quickly implement new features. This allowed us to test real software with users quickly.

Defining a Workflow
In parallel, we started to iterate and test new navigation patterns, that allowed users to find the data then needed as fast as possible.
Final IA concept for our long term vision
Finding an MVP
From our long term vision we were able to distil what was feasible to launch in a short time and what would provide the most impact for our users.
Learning the Landscape
Going into this project, our team were not experts in commercial real estate. After interviewing users lurking in reddit pages and watching countless youtube videos we were able to create a solid vocabulary and empathize with users.
Find, Consume, Download
From user research, we learned that optimizing for finding, consuming and downloading data was the best way to improve the experience.
Through a series of iterations we found users had different mental models for finding information so we created two key ways to find data. Search and Browse.
Refections
Likes:
I like how I was able to work on features while defining a design systems simultaneously.
I like that we were able to iterate quickly because of how we collaborated with developers.
Wishes:
I wish we didn’t have to start from scratch.
I wish that we had made more time to do polishing and refinement work with devs.
